Shaw Park Entrance

DURHAM, NC – The turnstiles have stopped, the numbers are in and the American Association is on top of independent baseball for average attendance in 2013, according to BallparkDigest.com. Out of 48 independent clubs, five American Association teams landed in the top-10, including the Winnipeg Goldeyes, who finished in the number one spot.

Winnipeg averaged 5,880 fans per opening at Shaw Park (pictured). That placed the Goldeyes one spot ahead of the Atlantic League’s Sugar Land Skeeters, who finished 2013 with an average attendance of 5,537. Next on the list was the American Association’s Kansas City T-Bones. Sitting in third with an average of 5,420, the T-Bones edged out another Atlantic League club, the Long Island Ducks. Kansas City averaged 117 more fans than the Ducks this year.

Other American Association teams to land in the top-10 in independent baseball attendance were the St. Paul Saints (sixth, 4,886), the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (eighth, 3,877) and the Lincoln Saltdogs (10th, 3,632). In addition to an abundance of top-drawing clubs, the American Association saw seven teams increase their attendance from 2012 to 2013. To view the complete list, click here.
