GOLDEYES SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER FROM CANARIES

Winnipeg 6, Sioux Falls 3 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)Box

After falling behind 2-0 after just a half inning, Winnipeg scored three runs in the bottom of the frame and two more in the second to take a 5-2 and would go on to defeat Sioux Falls in game one of the doubleheader, 6-3. Eight of the nine batters in the Goldeyes lineup collected at least a hit. Winnipeg SS Tyler Kuhn went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI while CF Reggie Abercrombie had a pair of RBIs in a 1-for-3 effort. Goldeyes starting pitcher Ryan Bollinger notched the win as he went five innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits.

Winnipeg 2, Sioux Falls 0 (Game 2 – 7 Innings)Box

The Winnipeg Goldeyes clinch the North Division title with a 2-0 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries in game two of the doubleheader. Winnipeg scored both of their runs in the first inning and made it hold up thanks to a terrific pitching performance from starter Nick Hernandez. Hernandez tossed a complete game five hitter with a walk and four strikeouts. With the win, Hernandez is now 11-2 on the season. Goldeyes SS Tyler Kuhn went 1-for-3 and drove in a run.

Wichita 8, Laredo 4Box

The Wichita Wingnuts clinch the South Division championship tonight as they double up the Laredo Lemurs by the score of 8-4. Wichita scored five runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 advantage and would never look back as they cruised to the victory. Wingnuts CF Brent Clevlen led the offense tonight going 3-for-5 with a home run, his 19th of the season, two runs scored and two RBI. Wichita 2B Abel Nieves also had a perfect 4-for-4 outing at the plate with a run. Wingnuts hurler Luke Robertson picked up the win going five innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits.

Gary SouthShore 11, Kansas City 4 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)Box

It was all Gary SouthShore in game one of the doubleheader as they rolled past Kansas City by an 11-4 final. The RailCats banged out 13 hits in the game and scored at least a run in every inning except the first. Gary SouthShore C Ryan Babineau was sensational at the plate going a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI. RailCats SS Ryan Brockett also had three hits in the contest along with three runs scored and a RBI. Gary SouthShore Morgan Coombs received plenty of offensive support tonight en route to his seventh win of the season. Coombs tossed five innings giving up four earned runs on five hits.

Kansas City 5, Gary SouthShore (Game 2 – 7 Innings)Box

Kansas City jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings and would go on to a 5-2 win over Gary SouthShore to gain a split in the doubleheader. T-Bones 2B Danny Richar had a solid game offensively going 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI. Kansas City CF Robby Kuzdale added a pair of hits and drove in three runs. T-Bones starting pitcher Kyle DeVore notched the victory as he allowed two earned runs on five hits in six innings pitched. The win by DeVore was his fourth of the season.

Amarillo 5, Grand Prairie 4Box

The Amarillo Sox rally from a 4-2 deficit in the final two innings to beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs, 5-4. The Amarillo 4-5 hitters of DH Kyle Nichols and 1B Andres Rodriguez combined to go 5-for-9 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI. Sox LF Derek Perren scored two runs and C Jeff Farnham drove in two. Amarillo reliever Randy Hamrick picked up the win by striking out the side in the ninth inning. Hamrick is now 2-1 on the season.

St. Paul 10, Lincoln 7Box

St. Paul scored eight big runs in the fifth inning and held off a late Lincoln rally to win 10-7. The Saints had three hitters with multi-hit games and eight of the nine batters scored at least one run. St. Paul 1B Angelo Songco went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI while 3B Joe Bonfe had two hits and scored two runs. Saints C Vince DiFazio chipped with a 1-for-3 night and plated two runs. St. Paul starting pitcher Anthony Claggett evened his mark at 6-6 with the victory. Claggett gave up four earned runs on six hits over seven innings of work. For Lincoln in defeat, LF Matt Forgatch collected three hits and drove in four runs.

Sioux City 14, Fargo-Moorhead 8Box

The Sioux City Explorers outlasted the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 14-8 in a true slugfest. The two teams combined for 22 runs on 27 hits. Sioux City had five players register multi-hit games including DH Brock Kjeldgaard who went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Explorers RF Peter Barrows had three hits and two RBI and CF Tim Colwell collected two hits and scored two runs. Sioux City starting pitcher Patrick Johnson was the winner as he gave up four earned runs on nine hits in five innings pitched. Johnson is now 9-5 on the season. For Fargo-Moorhead in the loss, CF Nic Jackson and 1B C.J. Retherford both had four hits in the contest.
