Winnipeg 4, Cleburne 2 (14 Innings) – Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes outlasted the Cleburne Railroaders 4-2 in 14 innings on Tuesday night at The Depot at Cleburne Station.
The Goldeyes took the lead in the top of the second inning when DH Logan Hill scored on a fielder’s choice from SS Wes Darvill (3-for-6). In the third, CF Tyler Hill (3-for-7) hit a lead-off double, took third on an error and scored when 2B Darren Seferina grounded out in the next at-bat. The Railroaders tied things up in the bottom of the eighth when 2B Alay Lago singled home C John Nester and 1B Ramon Hernandez hit a sac fly that allowed SS Osvaldo Martinez to score.
In after five scoreless innings, the Goldeyes moved back in front in the top of the 14th thanks to sac fly from C Sonny Ulliana and an RBI single from Hill that plated Darvill.
The Railroaders put the tying run on base in the bottom of the 14th after RF Hunter Clanin doubled and Nester drew a walk but Martinez bounced out to end the threat and the contest.
Chicago 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box Score
The Chicago Dogs (17-10) won a pitcher’s duel with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 2-1 on Tuesday night at Impact Field.
Chicago starting pitcher Connor Grey went eight innings and allowed just one earned run on three hits while striking out eight batters to earn his third win of the year. Reliever Jeff Kinley worked the ninth without giving up a hit to seal the save. The RedHawks’ only run came in the top of the seventh when 1B Correlle Prime hit a solo home run.
Offensively for the Dogs, C Ryan Lidge singled home 1B K.C. Hobson in the bottom of the first and Michael Crouse added his first homer of the year in the third to prove more than enough run support.
Kansas City 3, Gary SouthShore 1 – Box Score
The Kansas City Monarch (13-10) worked past the Gary SouthShore RailCats 3-1 in their series opener at Legends Field.
The RailCats scored their lone run in the top of the fourth inning when RF Zach Welz singled to allow 2B Michael Woodworth to score. The Monarchs took control in the bottom of the sixth as RF Jan Hernandez (2-for-4) singled home 3B Darnell Sweeney and SS Morgan McCullough (2-for-3). In the next at-bat, 2B Ryan Grotjohn scored when 1B Gabriel Guerrero bounced out.
Starting pitcher Justin Shafer went 6.1 innings in the winning effort and allowed the one run on six hits while striking out six batters. Reliever Carlos Diaz earned his fourth save of the year by working the ninth.
Lincoln 7, Houston 6 – Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs (13-11) outlasted a late salvo from the Houston Apollos to claim a 7-6 win on Tuesday night at Haymarket Park.
The Saltdogs built a 3-0 lead after 3B Ryan Long hit an RBI triple in the fourth and DH Curt Smith and C Skyler Weber added RBIs in the sixth. In the seventh, the Apollos edged in front when CF Breland Almadova hit an RBI single and SS Yeiler Peguero hit a three-run homer.
CF Forrestt Allday (2-for-4) gave the Saltdogs the lead back with a two-RBI double in the home half and he scored in the next at-bat when SS Josh Altmann (2-for-3) doubled. Houston rallied to tie the score in the top of the eighth when C Hudson Bilodeau (3-for-4) doubled home a pair of runs.
In the home half of the eighth, 2B Gunnar Buhner plated the eventual game-winning run with a single that allowed pinch runner Patrick Adams to score.
Sioux City 5, Kane County 2 – Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers (16-10) scored five runs in the final four innings to top the Kane County Cougars 5-2 in game two of their series.
The Cougars struck first but plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning. RF Jeffery Baez singled to score CF Anfernee Seymour (2-for-3), stole second and then scored when 1B Kacy Clemens singled. The Explorers tied the score in the sixth when LF Sebastian Zawada (2-for-5) homered and 2B L.T. Tolbert added an RBI single. In the seventh, SS Chris Clare (2-for-4) lifted a sac fly to score 3B Jose Sermo (2-for-4) and in the eighth, pinch hitter Lane Milligan hit an RBI ground-rule double and CF Chase Harris added a sac fly to score C Mitch Ghelfi (2-for-2).
Starting pitcher Tyler Beardsley picked up his fifth win of the year after throwing 6.2 innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight batters. Closer Matt Pobereyko worked a perfect ninth to earn his ninth save of 2021.
Milwaukee 8, Sioux Falls 2 – Box Score
The Milwaukee Milkmen (15-10) took game one of the 2020 Championship Series rematch with the Sioux Falls Canaries 8-2.
In the fourth, LF Adam Brett Walker II hit a lead-off home run, 2B Aaron Hill (2-for-5) hit an RBI double and both RF Trey Martin and CF Brett Vertigan (2-for-4) added RBI singles. 3B Logan Trowbridge hit a solo homer in the seventh and Vertigan hit his own solo shot in the ninth. Walker and C Christian Correa (2-for-4) also added unearned runs in the ninth to pad the Milkmen’s lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, LF Wyatt Ulrich (2-for-5) tripled home 3B Nick Gotta (3-for-4) and then scored in the next at-bat when CF Logan Landon (2-for-4) doubled but those were the Canaries’ only runs of the night.
