Winnipeg 6, Milwaukee 3 – Box Score
After dropping the first two games of their week-long series with the Milwaukee Milkmen, the Winnipeg Goldeyes took game three 6-3 on Thursday night at Franklin Field.
The win puts the Goldeyes 1.5 games ahead of the Milkmen for the top spot in the 2020 season standings. Winnipeg went to work right away as 1B Kyle Martin hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. LF Jordan George added a lead-off home run in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Milkmen started to fight back in the bottom of the inning as CF Brett Vertigan lifted a sac fly that scored C Christian Correa and, in the sixth, 1B David Washington and LF Adam Walker hit back-to-back solo shots to tie the score.
In the seventh, C John Nester (2-for-4) hit a two-RBI double and SS Wes Darvill added an RBI single later in the inning to give the Goldeyes a comfortable three-run cushion.
Starting pitcher Evan Grills earned the win in the game as he threw six innings and allowed three runs on three hits while striking out nine baters. Reliever Victor Capellan recorded his 10th save of the year after striking out two in the ninth.
St. Paul 8, Chicago 0 – Box Score
The St. Paul Saints held the Chicago Dogs to just three hits as they notched an 8-0 shutout win on Thursday night at CHS Field.
Starting pitcher Mike Devine twirled a gem for the Saints as he went eight strong innings and gave up just two hits and one walk as he struck out 10 Dogs. He improved to 2-2 on the year with the win. Reliever Jameson McGrane closed things out in the ninth, giving up one hit and striking out two more.
Offensively, the Saints had a pair of three-run innings anchored by some strong performances at the plate. CF Mikey Reynolds went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored and was just a single shy of the cycle; 1B John Silviano went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. RF Max Murphy added a 3-for-3 showing with two doubles and two runs scored and both LF Alonzo Harris and 2B Josh Allen added a pair of hits.
For the Dogs, 2B Edwin Arroyo went 1-for-4 and 1B Joey Terdoslavich with 2-for-3.
Sioux Falls 9, Fargo-Moorhead 4 – Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries rallied for eight runs in the top of the ninth to comeback and beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 9-4 on Thursday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks were leading 3-0 heading into the top of the eighth inning thanks to an RBI single from DH Drew Ward and sac flies from 1B Correlle Prime and LF Brennan Metzger (2-for-3). The Canaries found the scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning as RF Mike Hart lifted a sacrifice fly of his own to score DH Clint Coulter (2-for-4) but the RedHawks answered in the home half with a C Dylan Kelly (3-for-4) RBI double.
In the ninth, the Canaries sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on seven hits. SS Alay Lago (twice), CF Logan Landon (2-for-5), Coulter, Hart, LF Ryan Brett, 1B Grant Kay and 3B Damek Tomscha (2-for-4) also pushed runs across by putting the ball in play in the inning.
