CONTRACT OF FARGO’S GEIGER PURCHASED BY MIAMI

Durham, N.C. — The contract of Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 1B Dustin Geiger has been purchased by the Miami Marlins organization, the American Association announced on Friday.

The Merritt Island, Fla., native has been a solid performer in the league over the past two seasons, hitting .285 with a combined 46 doubles, 23 home runs and 111 RBI in stints with Fargo-Moorhead, Wichita, Gary SouthShore and Laredo. He was outstanding in 60 games for the RedHawks in 2016, hitting .329 with nine home runs and 39 RBI.

Previously, Geiger, 25, spent six seasons in the Chicago Cubs system, reaching as high as Double-A, after being chosen in the 24th round of the 2010 draft out of high school.

Geiger is the fifth Fargo-Moorhead player to have his contract sold in 2016, following:

  • RHP Drew Muren (Arizona)
  • INF/OF Kevin Taylor (N.Y. Mets)
