Gary SouthShore hits 4 home runs in 8-2 win over Milwaukee

The Gary SouthShore RailCats (18-21) throw a home run party in big win against the Milwaukee Milkmen (20-17) at Franklin Field Friday night.

The RailCats and Milkmen held each other scoreless for the first 5 and ½  innings until Milwaukee 2B Bryan Torres (1-for-2, 1 RBI) singles to center field to score CF Aaron Hill (1-for-2, 2 runs). The lead didn’t last long after a sacrifice fly RBI from RailCats 3B Tom Walraven (1-for-2, 1 run, 2 RBI) in the top of the 6th. In the top of the 7th, Gary erupted for 4 runs after a 3- home run inning thanks to C Michael Cruz (1-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), 1B Sam Abbott (3-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBIs), and Tom Walraven. Milwaukee RF Chad Sedio (2-for-3, 1 RBI) responded with an RBI single of his own in the bottom of the 7th, but that did not cool off the ‘Cats. In the top of the 9th, Abbott hit a 3-run home run, his 2nd of the evening, to solidify the win for Gary SouthShore.

The Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Milwaukee Milkmen will be back in action Saturday, June 25th at Franklin Field at 6:00 p.m.

 

Kane County 3, Fargo-Moorhead 1 (6 innings/Rain)    Box Score

 The Kane County Cougars (20-17) started off the weekend series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks after the game was ended due to rain at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night.

The RedHawks struck first with an RBI single from 3B Leonardo Pina (1-for-2, 1 RBI) to lead the Cougars 1-0 after 1 inning of play. There was no score from either side until the top of the 4th inning where the Cougars exploded for 3 runs. For the Cougars, 2B Sherman Johnson (1-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI), C Josh Rolette (1-for-1, 1 RBI), and RF Nick Anderson (2-for-3, 1 RBI) all contributed to the Cougars big 4th inning. For the RedHawks, DH Manuel Boscan (0-for-1) accounted for the sole run for Fargo- Moorhead and LF Ryan Liriano went 1-for-2. Boscan and Liriano were the only hitters for the RedHawks. The game ended in the 6th inning due to rain. 

The RedHawks look to bounce back against the Cougars Saturday, June 25th at 6:00 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.

 

Chicago 11, Lake Country 5 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (23-14) kicked off their weekend series with a win against the Lake Country DockHounds (14-25) on Friday night at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park. 

The DockHounds started off strong by leading the Dogs 3-0 after the 2nd inning. LF Jake Snider (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) hit a double off of the second pitch which allowed SS Gabriel Noriega (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) to get him home after hitting a single off of the 4th pitch. Jake Snider advanced the score to 3-0 after hitting a triple off of the 3rd pitch and sending home CF Daikan Yoh (1-for-2) and RF Lamar Briggs (2-for-4). The game took a turn in the 4th and 5th innings where the Dogs scored 6 runs just during those innings. In the top of the 9th, RF Danny Mars (3-for-5, 5 RBIs) hits a home run to bring home himself and 3B Stevie Wilkerson (3-for-5, 1 RBI) bringing the score to 9-5. 2B Grant Kay (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) scored after SS Connor Kopach (4-for-5, 1 RBI) hit a double to send him home. Connor Kopach later scored the last run of the night after being sent home by LF Charlie Tilson (0-for-5, 1 RBI) after a fielder’s choice. 

The DockHounds and the Dogs will go head-to-head again on Saturday, June 25th at 6:35 p.m. where the DockHounds will try to tie up the series. 

 

Sioux City 7, Cleburne 5 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers (15-21) walked away with a win against the Cleburne Railroaders (10-27) on Friday night. 

The Explorers kicked off the game by scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning. DH Ademar Rifaela (4-for-4, 3 RBIs) hit a single to bring home 3B Blake Tiberi (1-for-5). LF Danry Vasquez (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) hit a home run to score after RF Trey Martin (2-for-4) hit the first home run of the night and brought home Ademar Rifaela. The Railroaders were on a steady scoring streak after scoring 1 run in each of the first 5 innings, bringing the score to 5-4. RF Hill Alexander (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) had a home run in the 3rd and 5th innings of the game. The Explorers went on to 3 more runs to bring the final score of the game to 7-5. 

The Explorers will be at the Railroaders again on Saturday, June 25th at 7:06 p.m. to try and bring the series to 2-0. 

 

Sioux Falls 5, Kansas City 4 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries (12-26) had a close battle with the Kansas City Monarchs (25-12) on June 24th at Sioux Falls Stadium. 

The Monarchs started off with a 2-0 lead after DH Matt Adams (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) hit a home run to bring himself and LF Gabriel Guerrero (2-for-3) home. The Canaries sprang into action in the 3rd inning where they scored all 5 of their runs. LF Wyatt Ulrich (1-for-5) and 2B Nick Gotta (1-for-3) scored after an error at 2B. DH Jabari Henry (1-for-4) scored after 3B Gavin LaValley (2-for-4, 1 RBI) hit a single into right field. The Canaries went on to score 2 more unearned runs, and held the Monarchs to 5-4 and finished the game after the top of the 9th. 

The Canaries and the Monarchs will face-off again on June 25th at 6:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium. 

 

Winnipeg at Lincoln – Postponed (Bus Malfunction)

The game between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Lincoln Saltdogs was postponed due to a malfunction with the Winnipeg team bus. The game will be made up tomorrow, June 25th as a part of a double header starting at 5:00 p.m.
