GARCIA TOSSES COMPLETE-GAME SHUTOUT FOR LAREDO

Laredo 6, Grand Prairie 0Box Score

The Laredo Lemurs blanked the Grand Prairie AirHogs behind a complete-game performance from starting pitcher Henry Garcia.

Garcia improved to 5-6 overall this season as he went the distance against the AirHogs. He allowed just seven hits in the game and did not issue a single walk. He needed 128 pitches to finish off the game and 88 of those went for strikes. He retired 11 batters with strikeouts.

Offensively, 3B Juan Silverio had a team-high three hits and two RBI. 1B Travis Denker also had two RBI. For the AirHogs, three different batters each had two hits.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 11, Sioux Falls 5 — Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored six runs over the final two innings to pull away from the Sioux Falls Canaries 11-5.

The RedHawks tallied 14 hits in the game and five different batters each had multi-hit games. SS Zach Penprase had a team-high three hits and an RBI. Both 1B Joe Bonfe, DH Luke Bailey and 3B Michael Wing had a pair of RBI for Fargo-Moorhead. 2B Ryan Pineda and C Charlie Valerio also had two-hit games.

For the Canaries, three batters – RF Jason Repko, C Richard Stock and CF Cody Bishop – each went 2-for-4.

 

 

Winnipeg 7, Quebec 5 — Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes picked up the intensity at the plate late as they surged past the Quebec Capitales 7-5.

The Goldeyes struck first in the top of the first inning but the Capitales took the lead back with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth. Winnipeg added a run in the top of the fifth but CF Kalian Sams hit his 16ht home run of the season in the bottom of the inning to give the Capitales a 4-2 lead. In the sixth, 2B James Boddicker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and in the seventh, LF Tillman Pugh doubled home a pair of runs to give his team the lead and scored on a single by C Ryan Babineau later in the inning.

For the game, Pugh went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and 1B Casey Haerther went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

 

 

Joplin 3, Lincoln 2 — Box Score

The Joplin Blasters edged the Lincoln Saltdogs 3-2 in the first game of a three-game series.

The Saltdogs got things started in the third inning when 2B Aaron Payne doubled to score both 3B Eddie Young and CF Tucker White to take a two-run lead. In the fourth, the Blasters leveled the score as DH Jake Taylor had an RBI single and RF Jesus Solorzano drew a bases-loaded walk. In the fifth, the Blasters took the lead for good when 1B Matt Padgett singled to plate SS Maikol Gonzalez.

Starting pitcher Josue Montanez earned the win for throwing six innings and allowing two runs on six hits and striking out six batters.

 

Wichita 5, St. Paul 4 — Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts scored four runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined to slide past the St. Paul Saints 5-4.

For the Winguts, both DH David Espinosa and CF Nick Van Stratten tallied a pair of RBI in the game. Van Stratten had a game-high three hits. 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt also had a solid game at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with a run scored. For the Saints, CF Alonzo Harris went 2-for-4 with two RBI and 3B Nate Hanson went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

Reliever Iden Nazario earned the win despite throwing just four pitches and recording two outs. Reliever Paul Smyth picked up the save.

 

Sioux City 5, Gary SouthShore 3 — Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers used a strong seventh inning to take the lead on their way to a 5-3 win against the Gary SouthShore RailCats 5-3.

The RailCats struck first when in the second inning, 2B Alex Hernandez scored when SS Spencer Mahoney reached on an error. In the fourth, the RailCats extended that lead when both RF Adam Taylor and 1B Dustin Geiger crossed the plate. For the Explorers in the bottom of the frame, 1B Rene Tosoni scored on a sac fly and DH Brock Kjeldgaard scored on a single by C Brendan Slattery.

In the decisive seventh, CF Matty Johnson and LF Tim Colwell scored on an error and RF Michael Lang scored on a sac fly.

 

Kansas City 10, Amarillo 8 — Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones put up five runs in both the third and fourth innings and that proved to be enough as they dropped the Amarillo Thunderheads 10-8.

For the night, 3B Nate Tenbrink had a game-high three hits and an RBI and four other T-Bones had two-hit games. Among them, 1B Kyle Robinson and SS Vladamir Frias each added a pair of RBI. For the Thunderheads, 1B/LF Stefan Gartrell went 2-for-5 with two RBI and CF Dexter Kjerstad also went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.

On the bump, starting pitcher Drew Gay earned the win despite only tossing 3.2 innings. Reliever Fernando Hernandez picked up the save for working the ninth.
