Sioux City 3, Sioux Falls 2Box Score

With the game tied at two runs a piece in the bottom of the ninth inning, Sioux City’s RF Dillon Usiak came up with a single to score DH Amos Ramon and walk off on the Sioux Falls Canaries 3-2.

Ramon singled with one out in the bottom of the ninth and then stole second to get into scoring position. Usiak came up in the next at bat and connected on a 1-2 delivery to end the ball game. Usiak had a team-high two hits in three at bats. The Explorer’s other two RBI were provided by 1B Rene Tosoni and SS Nate Samson in the sixth inning.

For the Canaries, SS Stephen Branca went 2-for-4 and 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a pair of walks.

 

Grand Prairie 15, Amarillo 0Box Score

After rain delayed the start of the contest, the Grand Prairie AirHogs came out hot at the plate and starting pitcher Ryan Searle backed them up with a strong performance to give Grand Prairie a 15-0 win over Amarillo.

Searle went eight innings on the bump and allowed just four hits while striking out seven batters to improve to 2-2 on the season. Reliever Dustin Cameron came in to finish off the game in the ninth and did so with just 13 pitches.

At the plate, the AirHogs pushed a run across in the first inning, three more in the second and four more in the third to take a commanding 8-0 lead after the third frame. It was a collective effort from the AirHogs as all nine batters had at least one hit and seven of them had multi-hit games. Both SS Jimmy Mojica and 3B Abel Nieves had three-hit games and 2B Alex Nunez had a game-high four RBI.

 

Laredo 6, Kansas City 2 (Final – 7 Innings)Box Score

The Laredo Lemurs bounced back from an early deficit to claim a 6-2 win over the home-standing Kansas City T-Bones in a rain shortened contest.

The T-Bones took the lead in the bottom of the first as 2B Jonny Kaplan doubled home RF Bryan Sabatella and later scored on a single from 1B Nick Schwaner but those would be the only two runs Kansas City would produce on the night. The Lemurs claimed the lead in the fifth inning when SS Devin Goodwin hit a three-run homerun and LF Denis Phipps followed it later in the frame with a solo shot.

Phipps, along with 1B Gerardo Avila, had two-hit games and CF Nick Van Stratten led the way offensively with a 3-for-3 performance. On the mound, starter Cesar Carrillo picked up the win as he went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six batters.
