EXPLORERS WALK OFF ON AIRHOGS IN 10

Sioux City

Sioux City 2, Grand Prairie 1 – 10 innings Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers walked off on the Grand Prairie AirHogs 2-1 in the bottom of the tenth inning when LF Tim Colwell scored on a fielder’s choice by 1B Brock Kjeldgaard.

Colwell led off the bottom of the tenth by drawing a walk on four pitcher. He advanced to second a single by CF Matt Johnson. After Johnson and Colwell pulled off a double steal, RF Rene Tosoni was intentionally walked to load the bases. Kjeldgaard, who went 2-for-5 in the game, came up and reached on a fielder’s choice while Colwell scored to end the game.

For the AirHogs, both LF Willie Cabrera and C Michael Pair had two hits and for the Explorers, Kjeldgaard and C Matt Koch each also had a pair of hits.

 

Sioux Falls 3, Laredo 2  — Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries scored three runs in the second inning and made them stand up as they topped the Laredo Lemurs 3-2.

3B Angel Chavez doubled to plate the first runs of the contest in the top of the second. DH Brian Humphries and C Richard Stock both scored on the play. Chavez scored later in the inning on a single from SS R.J. Perucki. The Lemurs rallied in the seventh inning when pinch runner Luis Pollorena scored on a sac fly by RF Dvontrey Richardson and 1B/C Ryan Ortiz scored on a wild pitch but Sioux Falls reliever James Jones struck out LF Chris Elder to end the threat.

On the bump, starting pitcher Stephen Bougher picked up the win as he went six scoreless innings and allowed three hits. Reliever Chase Johnson earned the save as he closed things out in the ninth.

 

Kansas City 7, Winnipeg 5  — Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones put up five runs in the first two innings and held off the Winnipeg Goldeyes down the stretch to claim a 7-5 win.

LF Adam Bailey opened things up with a RBI-single in the top of the first inning that scored 3B Nate Tenbrink. In the second, CF Kyle Richards singled home RF Jacob Hayes and Tenbrink singled to score 2B James Boddicker, who went 3-for-5 in the game. Richards and SS Brent Peterson both scored on a single by 1B Jake Blackwood. The Goldeyes rallied in the fifth when both SS Casio Grider and RF Tillman Pugh hit two-run home runs.

Tenbrink, who went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI, scored his second run of the game in the seventh on a double by DH Brian Erie. Tenbrink also drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth. Winnipeg scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to pull within two runs but couldn’t draw any closer.

 

Lincoln 5, Amarillo 3  — Box Score

Five different Saltdogs had two hits in the game as Lincoln moved past the Amarillo Thunderheads 5-3.

As a team, Lincoln racked up 12 hits and registered at least one hit in each inning. The Saltdogs got things started right away as they plated a run in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the second. Amarillo scored a run in the top of the second and in the fifth when LF Geraldo Valentin hit a solo home run. The Saltdogs responded to that shot in the bottom of the inning with a run on an error and an RBI single by SS Mike Gilmartin.

Valentin added a run for the Thunderheads in the seventh but that was the last run of the night for either team. Lincoln’ starter Shairon Martis earned the win for working 6.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.

 

St. Paul 15, Fargo-Moorhead 4  — Box Score

The St. Paul Saints turned 11 hits into 15 runs as they took care of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 15-4.

Three different Saints had multi-hit games on the night; 1B/C Vinny DeFazio, 3B Steve Nikorak and SS Anthony Phillips. DeFazio went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a pair of runs while Nikorak homered twice and Phillips scored twice. 1B Angelo Songco added three RBI for the Saints.

For the RedHawks, leadoff man SS Zach Penprase went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Six other RedHawks each had one hit.

 

Gary SouthShore 12, Joplin 1  — Box Score

Nine different RailCats registered at least one hit as Gary SouthShore dropped the Joplin Blasters 12-1.

The RailCats scored in the top of the first inning and then blew the game open with 11 runs in the sixth through eighth innings. For the RailCats, RF Drew Martinez and 2B Alex Hernandez each had three hits in the game. Hernandez homered twice on the night. 1B Jose Sermo and C Michael Vaughn both added two hits.

The Blasters’ only run came in the fifth inning on a solo home run from 1B Jake Taylor. That blast tied the game momentarily before the RailCats pulled away late.

 

Ottawa 6, Wichita 1 Box Score

The Ottawa Champions jumped out to a six run lead and protected it on their way to a 6-1 win over the Wichita Wingnuts.

In the third inning, CF Sebastien Boucher doubled home a pair of runs and then scored on a single from LF Mike Schwartz to give the Champions a 3-0 lead. Ottawa doubled that lead in the fifth when 2B Roberto Ramirez hit a two-RBI single and scored on a single from C Bryce Massanari. Wichita’s only run came in the sixth inning when CF Jayce Ray scored on a single by C John Nester.

Starting pitcher Andrew Werner earned the win as he went seven innings and allowed the one run on five hits. He issued just one walk and struck out 11 batters for his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season.
