Wichita 8, Joplin 3 – Box
With the score deadlocked at 2-2 through 4 ½ innings, Wichita scored six runs over the next three frames and rolled to an 8-3 victory over Joplin. The Wingnuts had 13 hits in the contest and was led by 1B Matt Chavez who went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI. Wichita SS Leo Vargas added two hits, two RBI and a run scored while CF/RF Nick Van Stratten plated two runs in a 3-for-4 night. Wingnuts starting pitcher Tyler Kane grabbed his second win in as many starts with the club. Kane tossed six innings giving up two earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. With the win, Wichita clinched the South Division title.
Sioux City 3, Lincoln 1 – Box
RBI singles by SS Nate Samson and CF Tim Colwell staked Sioux City to a 2-0 lead after one inning and that would prove to be enough as they went on to beat the Lincoln Saltdogs by a 3-1 final. Samson had three hits on the night along with a pair of runs while C Ralph Henriquez and 1B Ino Patron each chipped in two hits with Henriquez driving in a run. Sioux City starting pitcher Jake Kuebler threw six solid innings to earn his third win of the season. Kuebler allowed an unearned run on three hits with three walks and three punchouts. With the win, the Explorers have now tied the Saltdogs atop the Central Division with Gary SouthShore a game back.
Sioux Falls 4, Gary SouthShore 3 – Box
Trailing 1-0 through 4 ½ innings, Sioux Falls scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to jump ahead 4-1 and would hold on for a 4-3 win over Gary SouthShore. Canaries LF Cameron Monger led the way offensively going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI. Sioux Falls 3B Patrick Fiala also added a home run with 1B Jake Taylor and SS Blake Schmit each going 1-for-3 with a run scored. Canaries starter Dylan Thompson nabbed the victory and is now 5-1 on the year. Thompson gave up three earned runs on eight hits with two walks in seven innings of work.
Winnipeg 3, St. Paul 2 – Box
Winnipeg scored a run in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth to rally from a 2-0 deficit and beat the St. Paul Saints, 3-2. Goldeyes 3B Wes Darvill led the offensive charge going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Winnipeg leadoff hitter Adam Heisler collected two hits and a RBI while 1B David Rohm plated two runs in a 1-for-4 game. Goldeyes pitcher Eric Eadington threw 2/3 of an inning and notched his fourth victory of the year. With the win, Winnipeg keeps a game lead over Laredo for the Wild Card and is three back of St. Paul in the race for the North Division.
Laredo 3, Texas 2 (10 Innings) – Box
Laredo SS Alvaro Rondon singled home PR Jimmy Norris with the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Lemurs defeated the Texas AirHogs in walk-off fashion, 3-2. Texas had a 2-1 lead going into the ninth only to see RF Denis Phipps launch a solo home run to send the contest into extras. Rondon had two hits on the evening with a RBI while 2B J.D. Pulfer went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Laredo pitcher Manny Martinez threw a scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout to nab his second win. Martinez is now 2-2 on the season.
Kansas City 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1 (11 Innings) – Box
Right fielder Dalton Wheat’s RBI single in the 11th inning gave Kansas City the lead for good as the T-Bones defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks by a 2-1 final. Wheat had a pair of hits with a double and a run scored while 3B Ryan Retz went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Kansas City reliever Mark Haynes tossed two scoreless innings to earn his fifth victory and improve his record to 5-2 on the season. Haynes gave up a hit and three walks while striking out two. For Fargo-Moorhead in the loss, the RedHawks left 14 runners on base.
