EXPLORERS’ BROUSSARD TO JOIN ANGELS

Durham, N.C. — The American Association announced on Friday that the contract of Sioux City Explorers RHP Geoff Broussard was purchased by the Los Angeles Angels organization.

In his first season with Sioux City in 2014, Broussard appeared in 41 games (3 starts) and put together an 8-1 record with a 3.26 ERA in 88.1 innings, striking out 83 batters while only issuing 31 free passes.

Previously, the native of Montclair, Calif., had spent two seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies’ organization, reaching as high as Single-A. Broussard was chosen in the 22nd round of the 2012 draft by the Phillies out of Cal Poly-Pomona.

With the signing of Broussard, the Explorers have now had four players’ contracts purchased by an affiliated organization in the past year (Nate Samson –Arizona; Rob Wort – Arizona; Tyler Graham – San Francisco).
