DYKSTRA LATEST EXPLORER HURLER HEADED BACK TO MLB ORGANIZATION, PURCHASED BY REDS

James Dykstra

MOORHEAD, MINN. – The Sioux City Explorers have sold the contract of RHP James Dykstra to the Cincinnati Reds organization, the American Association announced. Dykstra is the ninth player from the American Association to have his contract sold in 2019, and the 29th player since the start of the 2018 season.

Dykstra was 9-4 with a 3.49 ERA in 19 starts for the Explorers in 2018. In 108.1 innings pitched, he allowed 48 runs (42 earned) on 106 hits. Dykstra struck out 84 batters and walked just 26. He joined Sioux City after pitching at Double-A Frisco in the Texas Rangers organization earlier in the summer.

Dykstra was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the sixth round of the 2013 draft out of Cal State-San Marcos. It was the third time he was drafted after going in the 40th round to the Boston Red Sox out of high school in 2009 and the 50th round of the 2010 draft to Colorado after a season in junior college.  Dykstra pitched the 2013-2016 seasons in the White Sox organization and the 2017 season with the Rangers. He reached Triple-A with Round Rock in 2017.
