Durham, N.C. – The Los Angeles Dodgers organization has purchased the contract of Lincoln Saltdogs RHP Luis Chirinos, the American Association announced on Wednesday.
Chirinos split the 2013 campaign between Lincoln and El Paso, going 3-4 with a 4.96 ERA. The native of Maracay, Venezuela, appeared in 23 games, starting 16 and logging 94.1 innings between the two clubs. He also had a splendid 2012 with the Diablos, logging a 5-2 record and a 3.11 ERA after joining the club in midseason from Rio Grande Valley of the North American League.
Previously, Chirinos also spent the 2011 season with Rio Grande Valley, and played the 2007 through 2010 seasons in the Florida Marlins’ organization, reaching as high as Single-A.
He is the second Saltdogs player to be signed by a major-league organization this off-season, with INF Curt Smith also being sold to the St. Louis Cardinals.
