COOMBS NAMED AUSTRALIAN PITCHER OF THE YEAR

Adelaide, Australia – Gary SouthShore RailCats RHP Morgan Coombs was named the Australian Baseball League’s Pitcher of the Year on Saturday after a dominant season with the Adelaide Bite.

Coombs went 7-1 with a 1.95 ERA, second-best in the league, in 16 appearances for the Bite. His seven wins and 65 strikeouts were also second-most in the ABL (Grand Prairie’s Ryan Searle led the league with 69 K’s for Brisbane).

The native of West Terre Haute, Ind., has been a workhorse over the last three seasons for the RailCats, starting 60 games and tying for second in the AA with three complete games in 2014. Prior to Gary, Coombs pitched collegiately at Ball State.
