CANARIES WIN WITH TWO PENA HOMERS, SAINTS CLINCH NORTH

Sioux Falls 6, Winnipeg 4- Box

The Canaries led off the game with a home run, and later rallied past the host Goldeyes. With Winnipeg’s loss, the St. Paul Saints clinch the American Association North Division championship.

SS Jerome Pena (pictured) hit the leadoff blast, and also led off the third with a solo homer. DH David Bergin and LF Brian Humphries hit back-to-back shots later in the inning. CF Chris Grayson doubled in two more Canaries runs in the fourth. Pena, Grayson and 2B Brett Balkan had two-hit games for Sioux Falls.

RF Tillman Pugh was 3-for-4 for Winnipeg in the loss.

RHP Stephen Bougher tossed five innings to earn the win, striking out four. RHP Chase Johnson got the save.

 

Gary SouthShore 8, Fargo-Moorehad 7- Box

The RailCats scored four times in the sixth inning and twice more in the seventh, taking a road win at Fargo and ending the RedHawks’ four-game win streak. Three Gary players had multi-hit games — CF Brandon Thomas was 3-for-5, and C Jaime Del Valle and DH Adam Taylor had two hits apiece. SS Ryan Brockett added a double in the win.

SS Zach Penprase had a 4-for-5 day for Fargo, including a home run. CF Drew Muren also homered.

LHP Rene Solis struck out four in seven innings to earn the win. RHP Andy Loomis locked down the win in the ninth and earned the save.
