Sioux Falls 7, Cleburne 6 — Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries (28-48) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off on the Cleburne Railroaders 7-6.
The Railroaders took a 6-3 lead in the top of the ninth as 3B Chase Simpson (2-for-5) singled home LF Ramon Hernandez (2-for-4) but the Canaries went to work in the home half. 3B Zane Gurwitz belted a double that scored RF Mitch Glasser and, in the next at-bat, LF Mike Hart (3-for-5) doubled to score 1B Trey Michalczewski and Gurwitz to tie the score. Four pitches later, SS Angelo Altavilla connected for a single that scored Hart and ended the game.
For the Railroaders, DH Alay Lago went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored and four other batters added a pair of hits.
Fargo-Moorhead 9, Kane County 6 — Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (45-32) racked up 14 hits on the way to a 9-6 win against the Kane County Cougars.
C Dylan Kelly and 1B Correlle Prime each went 3-for-4 on the night and Kelly added two RBIs while Prime had an RBI and a run scored. DH Jordan George and LF Kevin Krause both added a pair of hits and George pitched in a pair of RBIs. 3B Leobaldo Pina hit his 14th home run of the year as well.
For the Cougars, 2B Josh Allen went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and SS Nick Conti added three hits.
Chicago 12, Winnipeg 4 (Game 1/7 Innings) — Box Score
The Chicago Dogs turned 12 hits into 12 runs as they topped the Winnipeg Goldeyes 12-4 in the first game of their doubleheader.
Seven different Dogs recorded hits in game one and C Ryan Lidge led the way as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBIs and a home run. SS Harrison Smith added a 2-for-2 performance with a homer and 5 RBIs. 3B Johnny Adams went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
For the Goldeyes, SS Wes Darvill went 3-for-4 with two runs and 1B Kyle Martin added three RBIs including his 25th home run of the year.
Chicago 4, Winnipeg 3 (Game 2/10 Innings) — Box Score
Though only scheduled for seven innings, the Chicago Dogs needed 10 to walk off on the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-3 in game two of their doubleheader.
The Dogs were leading 3-1 heading into the seventh inning thanks to a sac fly from DH Ryan Lidge and a two-run home run from 2B Grant Kay (3-for-5). In the top of the seventh, 3B Raul Navarro and LF Logan Hill (2-for-4) each hit solo home runs to tie the score and force extra frames.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the 10th inning when 3B T.J. Bennett (2-for-5) singled home pinch runner Cosimo Cannella.
Lincoln 5, Milwaukee 2 (Resumed Game 1/9 Innings) — Box Score
After Tuesday’s contest was suspended due to rain, the Lincoln Saltdogs came back on Wednesday and took game one 5-2 from the Milwaukee Milkmen.
The game was paused after two innings with the score still tied 0-0, but both teams brought the offense early Wednesday. Lincoln took the lead in the top of the third inning when LF Justin Byrd (3-for-4) singled home C Skyler Weber and CF Edgar Corcino (2-for-3). In the bottom of the inning, CF Brett Vertigan (2-for-3) singled to plate 2B Aaron Hill.
3B Yanio Perez added an RBI single in the fourth for the Saltdogs, Byrd hit a solo homer in the seventh and added another RBI in the ninth to help put the game away.
Lincoln 4, Milwaukee 2 (Game 2/7 Innings) — Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs (41-35) swept their impromptu doubleheader with the Milwaukee Milkmen with a 4-2 win in game two.
The Saltdogs struck first as LF Justin Byrd scored in the top of the first when 1B Curt Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In the fifth, 3B Ryan Long (2-for-3) and DH Forrestt Allday (2-for-3) hit back-to-back solo home runs and in the seventh CF Edgar Corcino hit a lead-off homer.
The Milkmen rallied in the bottom of the seventh and RF Cole Sturgeon singled to score both 3B Logan Trowbridge and LF Adam Brett Walker II but a strikeout in the next at-bat stranded the potential tying run on first base.
Starting pitcher Garett Delano earned the win as he went 6.1 innings and was saddled with one run on one hit with eight strikeouts.
Kansas City 3, Sioux City 2 (Game 1/7 Innings) — Box Score
The Kansas City Monarchs scored three runs in the first inning and made that stand up for a 3-2 win against the Sioux City Explorers.
In the top of the first, RF Gabriel Guerrero hit a three-run home run to stake the Monarchs to the early lead. For the Explorers, 1B Seamus Curran hit a lead-off homer in the second and he scored again in the sixth on a single from C Lane Milligan.
Starting pitcher Justin Shafer picked up the win for working five innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out three batters. Reliever James McGrane worked the sixth and seventh innings to earn the save.
Sioux City 5, Kansas City 2 (Game 2/7 Innings) — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers (40-37) bounced back in game two to earn the split of their twinbill with the Kansas City Monarchs (52-25) after a 5-2 win.
Sioux City moved in fron in the bottom of the second inning when LF D.J. Poteet and 2B L.T. Tolbert hit back-to-back RBI singles. The Monarchs briefly tied the score in the top of the fourth as 3B Will Kengor (3-for-4) scored on a wild pitch and SS Morgan McCullough scored on a sac fly, but in the bottom of the inning, CF Chase Harris scored when RF Michael Lang reached on a dropped third strike.
Harris added a two-RBI double in the fifth, plating 1B Seamus Curran and C Lane Milligan and putting the game out of reach.
Gary SouthShore 13, Houston 9 (Resumed Game 1/9 Innings) — Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats were trailing 3-1 when Tuesday’s game was suspended due to rain but turned things around on Wednesday to beat the Houston Apollos 13-9.
2B Michael Woodworth paced the RailCats as he went 5-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs. 1B Daniel Lingua and 3B Hayden Schilling each went 2-for-4 and with three RBIs and a homer. 2B Alec Olund went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and C Jackson Smith added a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI and two runs.
For the Apollos, CF Brian Dansereau went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs and both LF Blake Berry and DH Aaron Takacs added three hits.
Houston 4, Gary SouthShore 1 (Game 2/7 Innings) — Box Score
The Houston Apollos came back in the second game of their twinbill with the Gary SouthShore RailCats to win 4-1.
The RailCats scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning as SS Thomas Walraven singled to left to plate CF Jacob Talamante. The Apollos took the lead in the second when C Jared Fry pushed both 1B Jared Gay and 3B Ian Yetsko across the plate. In the fifth, DH Blake Berry singled to score LF Dom DeRenzo and 2B Jordan Pontious scored on a double from RF Aaron Takacs.
Apollos starter Matt Cronin earned the win for 5.1 innings of work in which he allowed one run on two hits and reliever Kelsy Portorreal bagged a five-out save.
