The Sioux Falls Canaries swept the American Association’s Carbliss player of the week awards for the week ending May 18th, with Josh Rehwaldt and Thomas Dorminy winning batter and pitcher of the week respectively, the league announced Monday.
Rehwaldt was one of four Canaries to homer three times in a monster offensive week. The outfielder led the league by hitting .560 in six games including 14 total hits and nine runs batted in.
Unquestionably Rehwaldt’s highlight of the week was Friday night, when he hit for the cycle, sealing it with a no-doubt home run in a dominant 22-0 victory for the Canaries over Chicago.
His six runs scored on Friday night also tied a league-record. In the three-game series against the Dogs alone he totaled 11 hits.
The Sioux Falls native re-joined his hometown Canaries last season after previously playing for them in 2018 and 2019. He played for New Jersey in the frontier league for three seasons in between.
It was a good week on the pitching end for the Canaries as well, with Dorminy standing out above the rest.
The right-hander tossed seven scoreless frames with nine strikeouts, picking up the win on Friday night against Chicago. He also did not walk a batter and allowed just six hits.
The Tennessee native is returning to the league after spending the 2020 season with Chicago. The 32 year-old has had stops in the Mexican League, Frontier League and multiple foreign winter leagues.
Carbliss is the founding partner of the American Association.
