Sioux Falls 5, Milwaukee 4 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries (14-9) took the rubber match with the Milwaukee Milkmen 5-4 on Thursday to claim the series.

Milwaukee struck first with an RBI double from RF Zach Nehrir in the second at-bat of the game but the Canaries took the lead in the bottom of the frame when 3B Damek Tomscha doubled home DH Jabari Henry (2-for-4) and then scored alongside 1B Alay Lago when C Clint Coulter tripled. In the next inning, LF Ryan Brett lifted a sac fly to score 2B Grant Kay, giving the Canaries the 4-1 lead.

Brett scored the Canaries’ final run in the bottom of the fifth when Henry singled. That run came sandwiched between Milwaukee’s fourth inning RBI double from 1B David Washington and a solo shot from LF Adam Walker (2-for-3) in the sixth.

 

St. Paul 5, Fargo-Moorhead 2 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints never trailed on the way to a 5-2 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Thursday evening at Newman Outdoor Field.

St. Paul took the lead in the top of the first inning as DH Chris Chinea doubled to score SS Nate Samson and then scored when 2B Josh Allen (2-for-4) singled. In the next inning, 1B John Silviano (2-for-4) hit a lead-off home run to give the Saints a 3-0 lead, but in the bottom half, SS Christian Ibarra hit a solo shot to put the RedHawks on the board.

In the sixth, LF Alonzo Harris drew a lead-off walk and then scored when Allen tripled in the next at-bat and Allen scored on an error on the same play. In the bottom half of the inning, DH Drew Ward (2-for-4) singled home CF Brennan Metzger but that proved to be the final run of the day.

 

Winnipeg 7, Chicago 1 (Resumption of game from 7/29) – Box Score

After the contest was suspended Wednesday night, the Winnipeg Goldeyes came back on Thursday to score six unanswered runs and claim a 7-1 win against the Chicago Dogs.

The score was tied 1-1 before the weather stopped the action on Wednesday. The Dogs’ lone run came when DH K.C. Hobson (2-for-4) doubled home CF Michael Crouse in the bottom of the first. The Goldeyes took the lead in the fourth as C John Nester (2-for-4) doubled home RF Logan Hill (2-for-5) and then scored when DH Roy Morales (3-for-3) singled. CF Darnell Sweeney added a solo shot in the fifth and capped off the scoring in the ninth, touching home after 3B Eric Wood (2-for-5) singled.

In the eighth, Hill and Nester hit back-to-back homers to lead off the inning. Pitcher Kevin Hilton earned the win for working 5.1 innings without giving up a run on five hits and two strikeouts.

 

Chicago 13, Winnipeg 8 (Game 2/7 innings) – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs snapped the Winnipeg Goldeyes’ 7-game winning streak with a 13-8 win in the second game of a Thursday doubleheader.

The Dogs did most of the damage in the fourth inning when they posted eight runs. RF Victor Roache (2-for-4) hit the first of his two two-run home runs to start the rally and then C Garrett Hope and 1B K.C. Hobson (2-for-4) added RBI singles. SS Tyler Ladendorf (3-for-4) finished the offensive output off with a three-run homer. While DH John Nester (2-for-3) – who also pitched one inning — hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth, 2B Edwin Arroyo (2-for-4) added two more runs for the Dogs in the bottom of the inning with a double to bring the score to 11-7.

In the sixth, Roache hit his second two-run shot to put a bow on the win. 1B Kyle Martin (3-for-4) added a solo shot for the Goldeyes in the top of the seventh for the final run of the night.
