BARNUM HITS WALK-OFF BLAST FOR MILKMEN

Milwaukee 3, Lake Country 2 – Box Score

DH Keon Barnum belted out a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth to boost the Milwaukee Milkmen to a walk-off 3-2 win against the Lake Country DockHounds.

The DockHounds (29-55) built an early lead as 3B Tristen Carranza hit a solo shot in the top of the first and CF Casey Dykstra added one of his own in the fifth. In the sixth, the Milkmen (44-40) found the scoreboard as C Hector Sanchez hit a lead-off homer. 

In the ninth, 1B Will Kengor hit a lead-off double and scored three pitches later as Barnum hit his 23rd roundtripper of 2022. 

Starting pitcher Christian Young went 8 strong innings in the no decision as he allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out eight batters. 

 

Kansas City 7, Winnipeg 2 – Box Score

The Kansas City Monarchs (52-31) ran their winning streak to five games and completed their sweep of the Winnipeg Goldeyes with a 7-2 win on Thursday night. 

The Monarchs were led by 2B Ryan Grotjohn as he went 3-for-4, homered twice and scored three times. 3B Darnell Sweeney also went 3-for-4 with an RBI. LF Jacob Robson and SS Pete Kozma each added a pair of hits and DH Matt Adams pitched in with a three-run home run. Adams’ shot came in the top of the ninth and gives him a league-best 27 homers on the year.

For the Goldeyes, 2B Kevin Lachance homered and 3B Ian Sagdal added the only other RBI with a sac fly in the ninth. 

 

Lincoln 7, Sioux City 2 – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs (39-45) drew level with the Sioux City Explorers (38-44) in the race for the final playoff spot in the West with a 7-2 win against them on Thursday night. 

The bottom half of the Saltdogs’ lineup powered the offense on the night as the 6-9 hitters all had a pair of hits. DH Matt Goodheart went 2-for-3 with 3 runs and an RBI, RF Hunter Clanin went 2-for-4 with two runs and both C Skyler Weber and CF Randy Norris had two hits and two RBIs. 

For the Explorers, 1B Gabe Snyder went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI and SS Zack Kone went 2-for-4. 

 

Fargo-Moorhead 12, Sioux Falls 3 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (56-28) extended their league-leading winning streak to seven games with a commanding 12-3 win against the Sioux Falls Canaries on Thursday. 

The RedHawks got things going early as they posted six runs in the first three innings and then posted six more in the fifth through the seventh. Four different RedHawks recorded three hits on the night: 2B Peter Maris (3 RBIs), 3B Leobaldo Pina (1 RBI), DH Ben Livorsi (2 RBIs) and CF Evan Alexander (3 RBIs). RF John Silviano and SS Sam Dexter each added a pair of hits.

For the Canaries, LF Nick Gotta went 2-for-2 and drew two walks and 3B Gavin LaValley hit his 17th homer of 2022. 

 

Cleburne 13, Gary SouthShore 4 – Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders turned 17 hits into a 13-4 win against the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Thursday evening at U.S. Steel Yard. 

The Railroaders (37-46) scored in six of the nine frames, including a six-run third inning that featured a two-run homer from 2B Edwin Arroyo (2-for-5) and a three-run shot from LF Hunter Wolfe (2-for-4). RF Hill Alexander also homered on the day and ended up going 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs. CF Chuck Taylor added a 3-for-5 performance with a run and SS Nick Shumpert went 2-for-5 with a solo homer. 

For the RailCats, 3B Victor Nova went 3-for-4 with a run, SS Daniel Lingua went 2-for-4 and C Jackson Smith added a two-run homer. 

 

Chicago 19, Kane County 7 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (48-35) racked up a season best 19 runs on the way to a 19-7 win against the Kane County Cougars on Thursday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. 

The Dogs put seven runs on the board in the first inning as they batted around and saw an RBI single from LF Michael Crouse (2-for-4, 4 RBIs), a two-RBI double from 2B Grant Kay (2-for-5, 3 RBIs) and a grand slam from DH Harrison Smith. The Dogs added four more in the fourth with the help of a three-run homer from Crouse and threw six more on the board in the eighth including a three-run shot from Smith.

Smith finished the night going 3-for-5 with eight RBIs. C Ryan Lidge added a 3-for-6 showing with two runs and RF Anfernee Grier went 2-for-4 with four runs.

For the Cougars, CF Jimmy Kerrigan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and his 26th homer of the year and RF Ernie De La Trinidad also went 2-for-4.
