DURHAM, NC- The contract of Amarillo Sox OF Joe Weik (pictured) was purchased by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim today, May 22. Weik is expected to be assigned to the high-A Inland Empire 66ers of the California League, who open a series at the Lancaster JetHawks Friday evening.
Weik is hitting .304 (7-for-23) in six games with the Sox so far in 2014 with one triple, one home run and eight RBIs. In a May 18 loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes alone, Weik was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.
2014 is Weik’s second season with the Sox. Weik, a former Texas Christian University Horned Frog, split 2012 with the Abilene Prairie Dogs and Edinburg Roadrunners of the North American Baseball League. In 91 combined games, he hit .340 with 12 home runs and 67 RBIs.

That season followed a two-year career at TCU, where Weik transferred to from Weatherford Junior College. At TCU, Weik hit .357 with six home runs and 29 RBIs in 2010, and earned a spot on the all-regional team for the NCAA Tournament Fort Worth Regional. In his senior season in 2011, Weik hit .301 with eight home runs and 39 RBIs, appearing in 58 games and starting 55.
