Amarillo 6, Grand Prairie 5 – 11 Innings — Box Score
The Amarillo Thunderheads scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game and then scored what turned out to be the game-winning run in the 11th as they slid past the Grand Prairie AirHogs 6-5 in 11 innings.
In the top of the ninth, LF Jordan Guida scored on a fielder’s choice and 3B Christian Ibarra scored on a fielder’s choice later in the inning to tie the score. After a scoreless tenth, CF Dexter Kjerstad scored on an error in the 11th to give the Thunderheads the 6-5 lead. Reliever Randy Hamrick came on to pitch for Amarillo in the bottom of the 11th and sat the AirHogs down in order.
Guida led his team with three hits and a pair of runs scored. For the AirHogs, C Zane Chavez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and DH Michael Pair added a pair of RBI.
Sioux Falls 6, St. Paul 0 — Box Score
The rain was not enough to stop Sioux Falls starting pitcher Shawn Blackwell as he fought through an hour and a half long rain delay and pitched a complete-game shutout as the Canaries beat the St. Paul Saints 6-0.
Blackwell allowed just five hits and did not allow a single walk in the contest. He struck out ten batters for the night and faced just 30. Offensively, LF Chris Grayson went a perfect 5-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. CF Cody Bishop also had a big night as he went 3-for-4 and scored a run. Five other Canaries each tallied one hit.
For the Saints, five different batters each recorded one hit.
Wichita 7, Laredo 5 — Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts dug themselves out of an early hole and dropped the Laredo Lemurs 7-5.
The Lemurs held a 4-1 lead after three innings but two Wingnuts runs in the fourth – a 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt two-run home – and three more in the sixth gave Wichita the lead. Both teams plated a run in the eighth but those would be the final runs of the night.
Mittelstaedt went 3-for-4 on the night with three RBI and three runs scored and 1B Andy LaRoche also had three hits For the Lemurs, 1B Travis Denker, RF Denis Phipps and 3B Juan Silverio each had two-hit games.
Joplin 8, Kansas City 1 — Box Score
The Joplin Blasters scored the first eight runs of the contest and that proved to be enough as they handled the Kansas City T-Bones 8-1.
The Blasters scored a run in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and another in the sixth to take an 8-0 lead. The T-Bones scored their lone run of the game in the sixth inning on a double by Jake Blackwood. For the Blasters, 3B Jairo Perez had a game-high four hits and a pair of RBI. 2B Omar Luna also had a solid night as he went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
For the T-Bones, RF Jacob Hayes had a team-high two hits.
Gary SouthShore 12, Fargo-Moorhead 7 — Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored seven runs in the final three innings to pull away from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 12-7.
The RedHawks were clinging to a 6-5 lead after six innings but the RailCats quickly changed that. In the top of the seventh, 2B Alex Hernandez doubled with the bases loaded to give Gary SouthShore an 8-6 lead. CF Drew Muren scored for the RedHawks in the bottom of the frame but the RedHawks put the game out of reach with four more runs in the top of the ninth.
Hernandez, one of three RailCats to have three hits in the game, finished the night with four RBI. CF Brennan Metzger also had a strong night as he went 4-for-6 with three RBI. CF Jon Jones and RF Jose Sermo each also tallied three hits.
Sioux City 11, Lincoln 3 — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers turned 13 hits into 11 runs as they beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 11-3 on Saturday night.
Four different Explorers, including SS Noah Perio who was 4-for-5 with two RBI, had multi-hit games. CF Matty Johnson went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and RF Michael Lang also went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. LF Brent Keys also had two hits and a pair of runs scored. For the Saltdogs, LF Jeremy Hamilton had a team-high two hits.
On the bump, starting pitcher Patrick Johnson picked up the win for working six innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.
Winnipeg 5, Ottawa 0 — Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes blanked the Ottawa Champions 5-0 in an interleague match up Saturday behind the performance on the mound from starter Edwin Carl.
Carl picked up the win as he tossed eight innings and allowed just three hits and three walks. He struck out eight batters on the night. Reliever Brendan Lafferty came on in the ninth and finished off the shutout without allowing a hit. Offensively, CF Reggie Abercrombie had a big night as he went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and DH Luis Alen went 3-for-4 with an RBI. OF Tillman Pugh added a pair of RBI on two hits.
For the Champions, 2B Albert Cartwright, 1B Nick Giarraputo and LF Mike Schwartz each had one hit.
