Kane County Cougars infielder Josh Allen and Lake Country DockHounds starter Bryan Bonnell won the American Association’s Pointstreak batter and pitcher of the week for the week ending 8/25, the league announced Monday.
Allen led the league in hitting this week, going 12-for-22 (.545) at the plate down in Cleburne. He hit two doubles and four home runs, drove in 13 runs and drew six walks as well.
He capped his week off on Sunday with a two-homer performance in the Cougars 8-6 win to clinch the series and more importantly, a spot in the Wolff Cup Playoffs.
Allen is having a career season at the plate, hitting .329 (6th in AAPB) with 15 homers, 54 RBI and 23 doubles.
On the pitching side, Bonnell made two outstanding starts for Lake Country, pitching seven innings in each and going 2–0.
He started his week at home with seven shutout frames against Gary SouthShore, striking out six and allowing just three hits with no walks.
Then on Saturday he shut down a hot Chicago Dogs lineup, going seven innings while allowing just four hits, one run, no walks and striking out six once again.
On the season the right-hander has his ERA down to 3.98 with a 5-6 record and 48 strikeouts in 83.3 innings pitched.
