July 20 Evening Recap

Texas 4, Wichita 3 – Box

The Texas AirHogs complete the three-game sweep of Wichita as they score a pair of runs in the eighth inning to overcome a 3-2 deficit and win 4-3. Texas plated single runs in the third and fourth innings to go out to a 2-0 lead. The Wingnuts would add a run in the fifth on a CF Harrison Kain single to cut it to 2-1 before taking the lead in the seventh on a wild pitch and a Kain RBI double. The score would stay way until the bottom of the eighth when Texas took the lead for good on a double by SS Beamer Weems and a CF Trevor Sealey squeeze bunt. AirHogs reliever Scott Firth threw a scoreless eighth inning and notched his second victory of the year. Firth gave up a hit and a walk in the four batters faced.

Cleburne 12, Gary SouthShore 9 (Regularly Scheduled Game) – Box

In the regularly scheduled game, Cleburne would plate nine runs over the first three innings of play and outlast the Gary SouthShore RailCats by a 12-9 score. The Railroaders pounded out 16 hits in the contest with six batters having multi-hit games. Cleburne LF Derrick Pyles went 3-for-4 on the night with a home run and six RBI while leadoff hitter Mitch Glasser had a perfect 3-for-3 game with a pair of walks and four runs scored. Along with Pyles, Railroaders CF KC Huth and SS Alex Polston also hit home runs in the contest. Cleburne pitcher Onas Farfan tossed four scoreless innings of relief and earned his third victory of the season. Farfan gave up a hit while striking out one in the 13 batters faced. For Gary SouthShore in the losing effort, RF Colin Willis went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI.

Salina 5, Sioux City 1 – Box

The Salina Stockade jumped out a 5-0 lead after four innings of play and would never back en route to a 5-1 win over Sioux City. Salina collected 10 hits as a team and was led by leadoff hitter Logan Trowbridge who went 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Stockade DH Jesse Baker had two hits in four at-bats with two RBI while C Cody Coffman added a home run in a 2-for-3 night. Salina starting pitcher Jordan Cummings gave up an earned run on six hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched to pick-up his first win of the year. Cummings allowed five walks to go along with four strikeouts. For Sioux City, DH LeVon Washington went 2-for-4 with a home run.

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Sioux Falls 1 – Box

Fargo-Moorhead 3B Josh Mazzola hit a two-out, three-run double in the top of the ninth inning to cap off a four-run rally as the RedHawks defeated Sioux Falls, 4-1. This game featured strong starting pitching from Fargo-Moorhead’s Tyler Alexander and Sioux Falls’ Grady Wood. Alexander gave up an earned run on seven hits in eight innings of work and struck out nine. Wood, on the other hand, went 8 2/3 innings giving up two hits and three earned runs (all on the Mazzola double) to go along with nine strikeouts. He did not allow a runner to reach base until the seventh inning. Alexander picked up his second victory of the season while Trey McNutt notched his second save.

Kansas City 6, Lincoln 3 – Box

The Kansas City T-Bones scored four runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and defeat Lincoln by a 6-3 final. Kansas City had seven batters in their lineup collect at least a hit including DH Tyler Horan who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. T-Bones leadoff hitter Chantz Mack had a 2-for-4 game with a run scored while 3B Jordan Edgerton added a triple and two RBI. Kansas City starting pitcher Calvin Drummond gave up two earned runs over six innings of work and notched his fourth victory. Drummond allowed three walks and five hits to go with the four strikeouts. For Lincoln in the losing cause, LF Brandon Jacobs went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
