FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have sold the contract of LHP Brandon Mann to the Oakland Athletics. Mann is the 65th player in franchise history to have his contract sold to a Major League organization.
Mann, 31, became the American Association single-season strikeout king in 2015 has he recorded 157 punch-outs in 143.2 innings pitched. He broke the previous record of 144, set by Ben Moore of the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2011. Mann posted a 7-10 record with a 4.07 ERA in 22 games (21 starts) for the RedHawks this season, and posted at least nine strikeouts in eight of his starts.
In addition to leading the league in strikeouts, Mann led the league in batters faced (645), was second in innings pitched, tied for second in complete games (4) and tied for third in games started. He also set or tied franchise records for strikeouts, starts and innings pitched.
Mann’s professional career began in 2002 after being selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 27th round out of Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines, Wash. He has also pitched professionally in the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations, the Atlantic League and in the Japanese Major Leagues.
