2017 AMERICAN ASSOCIATION POSTSEASON ALL-STAR TEAM ANNOUNCED

DURHAM, N.C.- The American Association has announced its 2017 Postseason All-Star Team. The team was voted upon by the league’s field managers and media representatives.

The North Division champion Winnipeg Goldeyes lead the team with four selections, followed closely by the South Division champion Wichita Wingnuts, who feature three players.

The complete team is below (Stats after games played September 1, 2017):

Catcher: Martin Medina, Wichita

  • Tied for seventh in the American Association in batting with a .318 average
  • Has accumulated 18 doubles, six home runs, and 47 RBI in 83 games
  • American Association Midseason All-Star
  • Second season with Wichita

First Base: Matt Chavez, Wichita

  • American Association RBI leader with 84
  • Tied for second in the American Association in batting with a .330 average
  • Also has 16 doubles, a triple, and 17 home runs in 84 games
  • American Association Pointstreak Player of the Week for July 9
  • American Association Midseason All-Star
  • Second season with Wichita

Second Base: Cesar Valera, Lincoln

  • Fifth in the American Association in batting with a .327 average
  • Has collected 19 doubles, six triples, four home runs and 52 RBI
  • Second season with Lincoln

Third Base: Wes Darvill, Winnipeg

  • Owns a .312 average with 19 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 48 RBI
  • American Association Pointstreak Player of the Week for May 28
  • American Association Midseason All-Star
  • Second season with Winnipeg 

Shortstop: Andrew Sohn, Winnipeg

  • Hitting .302 with 15 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 45 RBI
  • American Association Pointstreak Player of the Week for July 16 and August 6
  • First season with Winnipeg 

Outfield: Josh Romanski, Winnipeg

  • Tied for second in the American Association in batting with a .330 average
  • Second in the American Association with 81 RBI
  • Has also accumulated 27 doubles and 11 home runs
  • American Association Midseason All-Star
  • Second season with Winnipeg 

Outfield: Anthony Gallas, St. Paul

  • Tied for fifth in the American Association with 19 home runs
  • Hitting .306 with 17 doubles, five triples, and 65 RBI to go with the 19 homers
  • American Association Pointstreak Player of the Week for June 11
  • American Association Midseason All-Star
  • First season with St. Paul

Outfield: Richard Prigatano, Wichita

  • Tied for seventh in the American Association in batting with a .318 average
  • Has amassed 26 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, and 61 RBI
  • American Association Pointstreak Player of the Week for August 20
  • Second season with Wichita 

Designated Hitter: David Bergin, Winnipeg

  • Ranks among leaders in all three triple crown categories — tied for second in average (.330), tied for third in home runs (20), fifth in RBI (77)
  • Has hit 32 doubles and two triples as well
  • American Association Rawlings Player of the Month for July
  • First season with Winnipeg

Pitcher of the Year: Tyler Alexander, Fargo-Moorhead (pictured)

  • American Association strikeout leader (159)
  • American Association ERA leader (2.13)
  • 7-6 record over 20 starts
  • Has not allowed a run in his last three starts, and has struck out double digit opposing hitters in his last six starts
  • American Association Rawlings Pitcher of the Month for August
  • Third season with Fargo-Moorhead 

Relief Pitcher of the Year: Cody Winiarski, Kansas City

  • 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA and 20 saves in 45 relief appearances
  • 64 strikeouts and just eight walks (8:1 ratio) in 50.1 IP
  • First season with the T-Bones

Defensive Player of the Year: Tony Campana, Sioux City

  • Owns a .991 fielding percentage and just two errors in 89 games
  • Four outfield assists and 228 putouts as a regular in the Explorers’ outfield
  • First season with the Explorers

Further awards will be announced in the coming days, including the league’s Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year, and Player of the Year.
